  • Timothy Howes: Education and Food is Why We’re Here

    09/23/2015

North Haven Courier Masthead                                           Timothy Howes

ACES’s Timothy Howes says food, transportation, and technology are the education cornerstones. Although there was some initial pushback from the students to things like flaxseed pizza dough, ACES cooks played around with the recipe until they found a healthy, honey-wheat version that the kids did enjoy. It’s that sort of problem solving that he enjoys as ACES assistant executive for Finance and Operations.

  • The Time Has Arrived for Personalized Learning

    07/22/2015

Every student deserves a quality education. Our current system doesn’t work for many of our students. According to the Connecticut State Department of Education, nearly 1 in 5 students fails to complete high school in four years (CSDE, 12/11). Connecticut has one of the largest achievement gaps in the country regarding 4-year graduation rates. Only 70 percent of economically disadvantaged students graduate on time. A one-size-fits-all approach isn’t working for many of our students. It’s time to make it personal.
