ACES at Chase recognizes that strong reading skills are vital for the success of every child in school and beyond. We know that you have high expectations for your child and our goal is to help your child reach his/her goals. Research tells us that children who read at home academically outperform those who do not.  They are better spellers, have larger vocabularies, and perform better in their classes. Below, you’ll find some TIPS that can help you help your child improve and expand their reading abilities and grow as learners.

TIPS for Reading at Home

T

Take some time every day to read for a minimum of 20 minutes.

I

Include the whole family in reading time. Children are more likely to want to read when they see their parents/guardians reading.

P

Pick interesting stories.  Children can read higher-level texts that will be more beneficial to their reading progress when they are interested in the content.

S

Share. You and your child can share your thoughts about what you are reading, whether it is the same text or not. Most importantly, be a good listener, ask questions to learn more, and have fun together.
