SCASA 8th Annual Student Awards Luncheon a Success
April 5th, 2013
Dr. Craig W. Edmondson, executive director, ACES Village School students, and SCASA Awardees,
ACES with SCASA awardee, Laly Corchado, Andrew Sorrentino of Rocky Hill and Laly Corchado of
and her parents, Eli and Daisy Corchado Hamden.
Each year, two scholarships are awarded in memory of Superintendents who passed away while in office. This year awards were given in commemoration of Dr. Alida Begina of Hamden, 1995-2007, and Martin DeFelice, Jr. of East Haven 1993-1995 and 1997-2006. The recipients of this year’s awards were Kaitlin Makepeace, a senior at Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, Conn., and Daniel Knepple a senior at Oxford High School in Oxford, Conn., and Laly Corchado, a sixth grader and Hamden resident at the Village School in North Haven. Laly has been described as a teacher’s “dream” student, and at her young age she is an active member of the Girl Scouts, a participant in the Best Buddies program and works to keep our Earth “green” by participating in her school’s recycling program. “Each of these students has displayed outstanding leadership skills, a natural progression of development throughout the years, exemplary scholastic ability, and dedicated community involvement”, according to Dr. Craig Edmondson Executive Director at ACES.
