COVID-19 vaccines are a powerful way for us to make sure that our school community is protected from COVID-19 and that we are able to have a smooth and uninterrupted school year. We encourage all students and families who have not yet been vaccinated to take this opportunity to access a COVID-19 vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccines are available for all students 12 years of age and older. Roughly 7 million teens across the United States have been vaccinated so far, and the vaccine has proven to be both safe and effective.
We encourage all staff, students and families who want to learn more about COVID vaccines to do so. The CDC has several resources that
students and families may find useful:
- For an overview of common myths and facts about COVID vaccines, click here
- For an overview of COVID 19 vaccines for children, including information about the Pfizer vaccine product, click here
- To read an interview about COVID 19 vaccines with a Connecticut-based pediatrician who is also the President-Elect for the Connecticut chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, click here
In addition, we encourage families with additional questions to consult with their pediatricians/doctors.
All staff and students who want to get vaccinated at ACES' clinics on October 22, 2021 are encouraged to do so. Consent forms are attached and need to be completed. In addition, new ACES staff are required to be vaccinated. Please take advantage of this opportunity.
Under the new guidelines, staff who received the 2 shot Pfizer are eligible for a booster. Staff interested in receiving the booster should bring their vaccine cards with them indicating the date and dose of the initial vaccination. A third shot is also available to staff who received the Moderna vaccine that are considered immunocompromised.
CDC recommends that the following groups should receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after completing their Pfizer-BioNTech primary vaccine series:
- People aged 65 years and older
- Residents aged 18 years and older in long-term care settings
- People aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions
CDC recommends that a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine should be made available so that the following groups may receive a booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after completing their Pfizer-BioNTech primary vaccine series, based on their individual benefits and risks:
- People aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions
- People aged 18–64 years at increased risk for SARS-CoV-2 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting

Please reach out to the contacts above with any questions - and thank you for everything you are doing to keep yourselves, your family, and your community safe.
