The ACES Minority Teacher Recruiting (MTR) Advisory Council, which consists of school personnel and administrators from our partner districts, meets quarterly to plan, develop and implement strategies to improve the overall recruitment and retention of a diverse educator workforce. Some of the MTR Advisory Council’s key initiatives include the annual MTR Careers In Education Job Fair, the annual Future Educators Symposium, Para-educators ARC Informational Session and Peer Networking Workshops.
As a member of the Regional Education Service Center MTR Alliance, whose mission is to assist Connecticut school districts in the recruitment, hiring, development, support and retention of a racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse teaching and administrative workforce, ACES plays a key role in developing and implementing statewide programs that support that mission including, Pathways to Teaching, MTR Scholarships, Peer Networking Professional Development Workshops, Praxis I Preparation Classes and other components related to recruitment and retention.Â
Over the years the ACES MTR Advisory Council has collaborated with various stakeholders and partners including teachers and administrators, parents, high school and college students, community organizations such as the New Haven NAACP and the Connecticut State Branch of the NAACP and the Pan-Hellenic Council, teacher unions, superintendents, members of the media, the Office of Higher Education, the State Department of Education and the Southern Connecticut State University School of Education, just to name a few. Our efforts to solicit input from the various stakeholders is done through meetings such as the quarterly ACES MTR Advisory Council, college and university recruitment fairs, the ACES MTR Careers In Education Job Fair, the Peer Networking Workshops, ARC Informational Workshops, Resume Writing & Interview Skills Workshops and the Future Educators Symposiums.
